How FSMPs Support Children and their Families

Video description

How dietitians have supported patients and their families through the Food for Special Medical Purposes (FSMPs) story as a series of twelve case studies describing the improved clinical and quality of life outcomes.

In this video we share an overview of Food for Special Medical Purposes (FSMPs) and how they are used by healthcare professionals to support children and their families.

Foods for Special Medical Purposes (FSMPs) are designed to provide essential nutrients like energy, protein, vitamins, minerals, and sometimes fibre, either supplementary to the diet or completely replacing a normal diet depending on the needs of the patient. FSMPs are formulated and regulated for the dietary management of a disease or medical condition. They must be used under medical supervision.

FSMPs are used to support the nutritional needs of patients with specific medical conditions and come in a range of formats including oral nutritional supplements and enteral tube feeds.

Further to their role in nutrition support, FSMPs offer significant benefits to families. They can streamline feeding times, allowing children more time to play with siblings and friends. Thus, helping to improve the quality of life for many patients, families and carers by providing essential nutrition and freeing up valuable time and resources.

To support the video, download a copy of the PDF document which will walk you through twelve case studies using Nestlé Health Science FSMPs. They include examples of dietitians using oral nutritional supplements and enteral tube feeding FSMPs to manage the nutritional needs across a range of clinical conditions in children.
